[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif[/img]im 13 years old 110pounds 5foot6 and was wonderind if i should buy a trx 400 ex or an kawasawki 400? would you tell me your ideas and i will resond with a comment on what i like about each as every one tells me what to get!

The Kawasaki and Suzuki 400's are better than the 400EX in every area. They have liquid cooling, double overhead cams, generally a much more powerful engine. The frames on the Honda and Kawasaki are almost exactly the same, but the Kawasaki has slightly better suspension and REVERSE. If you're going to be trail riding it is very useful. Kawasaki and Suzuki basically copied the 400EX frame and put all new and better components on it. Definitely go with the KFX or Z. I don't know if you'll be buying new or used, but if you buy new there's no sense in paying the exact same amount for a machine that doesn't have reverse and doesn't have suspension, power, or handling that's as good. KFX all the way.

 

By the way, the only problem a lot of KFX's had from the beginning was a weak frame around the front shock mounts and a few other places. It had a weak swingarm and axle in the first year, but that was fixed almost immediately. The weaknesses in the frame were fixed halfway through 2003 and have all been updated on the 04's. The Kawasaki is all around better than the EX. There's going to be some loyal Honda riders on here telling you that the EX is the way to go, but the only reason to get an EX over a KFX is if you're buying one used, because 400EX's can be found very cheap used. hondaphyscio.....if u want more sppeed better handling and contorl exceeltn trail machine than either go with the z400 or kfx400 they are so much faster than the honda 400...and they have better handling and contorl and they are excellent trail machines....my friend has a z400 and that machine has incredible handling and tweerrific spped and its all beefed up....my other friend has a honda 400 and it is so much slower stockwise...the z400 can beat iot when its stock to stock....i would highly recomend the kawasaki or the suzuki...i myself think honda could have done a btter job on there 400 quad

and why are they funny? it is all true.. the kfx kills the 400ex.. the ex is juss plain old and needs to technology... 450R...i hate loyalist ppl though that is the stupidest thing.... i did alot of research and test riding b4 i bought mine... 400ex was impressive but not worth the money.. unless you are getting one used because you can find them DIRT cheap sometimes.. but i was not.. almost got the yfz but didnt like it the way it seated... and didnt think it would be as good on the trails... the z400 suits the all around rider perfectly.. it has speed it has handleing it has suspension... you can ride trails or race MX it will do them both... i do both with it. only complaint i have about it so far is that its not as popular as the hondas or the yamahas so when yourlooking for info on these forums maybe its hard to find because no one really cares about suzuki or kawasaki...

If your gonna buy used denfinitly go with the ex, u can get a nice stock one for like $3k. If you look for a nice stock z/kfx its gonna run you about $4k. With the 1k more that u were gonna spend on the kfx u can put a full exhaust($400-500), cam($125), nerfs&bumper($220), and handlebars($20-70) and a nice graphics($60-120) kit and have a faster nicer lookin quad and still have $35 (est) left over! lol. If you buy new and you despretly need those 2 ponies that the kfx has over the ex, get the kfx.

 

there is the loyalist i was talking about... i do agree that kiills is an overstatment.. and yes isnt much faster but it is.. and it is more like 3-4mph faster.. and yes it does handle better due to its better suspension... it is liquid cooled vs. the 400ex air cooler it has reverse vs the 400ex with out, another thing i would like to point out is that it revs alot quicker IMO.. the kfx/z beginning revs are a lil slower but once you get to about 2,500 rpm you can go to 10,000 rpm instantaneously. the 400ex i felt had a lil less of a rev.. but a lil more torque.. that is probably because it has a longer stroke the kfx.. and yes crackhead we said " 400ex was impressive but not worth the money.. unless you are getting one used because you can find them DIRT cheap sometimes.." but if he is going to buya brand new quad because you never can be to sure as to were that used quad has been... then the z sounds like the best bike for him, he doesnt sound like much of a racer so the yfz is out of the question he is to small for a raptor.. and the 400ex is outdated..
