Default whats wrong with my 250r's swingarm

hey everybody I have been having a problem with my 1986 trx 250rs swingarm while atleast I think its that? This is the only problem i have had the bike runs strong and has a 275 stroker motor and many after market parts. The only thing wrong with it is the chain binds up every once in while. Its between the sprocket and the chain slide. Fixing it in the trail is not a very fun or easy task and I am getting sick of it. It seems to do it when the chain gets the least bit loose. I am a good wrench and could figure it out if i really sat down with it but i thaught i'd give u guys a shout and see if you have any feed back thanks alot

Check if one of your sprockets has a bent tooth or missing teeth, if not that then try lubing the chain? or buy another chain.

Are you running an "o" ring chain? If so make sure you have a spring loaded chain tensioner too."O" ring chains will often stretch when they get warm and create slack, but look normal again when they cool down. A spring loaded chain tensioner will keep the slack from causing any problems..no matter what is causing it. If you already have one make sure the mounting bolt hasn't loosened up and the tension gone out of the spring, or the roller moved out of position, or the roller wore down...any of the above to where the tensioner is no longer doing it's job.

I think your most likely problem is bearings. If your axle bearings are bad, that would be pretty easy to spot and you wouldn't be asking us for help. But just in case, set the back end up on a block or something where the rear wheels are free spinning and see if you can wiggle the axle. it could also be the swingarm bushings if the whole swingarm moves. I've seen these in very bad shape since the 250r is such an old bike. Hope it helps.

check the underside of your bearing housing that clamps down and holds the bearings/wishbone. that is your chain adjustment and most likely, it has cracked and the offset wishbone has slid all the way forward loosening the chain. when you hit a dip, your chain has so much slack that it gets caught between the front sproket and the bolt that holds the swingarm to the frame. this will begin to snap teeth off the front sproket (dont ask me how i know this). cracks can be hidden (as mine were and had the same symptoms) IE check the underside of the housing. mine was cracked so bad that when we took the tightening bolts out a whole piece fell on the ground.

FIX - we welded both sides and grinded the inside of the housing for obvious reasons. havent had a problem since.

hopefully, your adjustment is just wrong and it needs to be tightend and the bolts need to be tightend as well. lots of force going on back there, no surprise if it does become loose.

tell us how things go.

Good thought - I assumed(probably wrongly) that the owner might have looked for any obvious failures.
