450r vs. blaster
#13
I'm not sure if you're joking...? I'm really not sure? Seriously if you're not blasters are made for kids that are small and from ages prob 8-12. 450r's are gonna be raced competitively by ADULTS and most likely keep up with the yfz's. No one is sure yet, except for maybe Tim Farr, which gives us a good idea that if he races them, they're gonna be awesome, cuz if it doesn't ROCKET Tim Farr doesn't touch it. Just my and almost everyone else's 2cents. I'm not trying to hack on you at all, just telling the truth. And sorry about everyone's smart a$$ comments, for some reason everyone rips on newbs. Not sure y?

My brother has a blaster that is ported, jetted and he drilled holes in the air box other than that it's stock, he keeps up with my bone stock 400EX pretty well. In a drag I still have a slight edge but if I don't shift right it's neck and neck. I'm afraid when he gets a new exhaust I'll have to start beefing up the EX to compete. I also have 15-20 pounds on him though. He does get more thrashed from his suspension and his brakes are a bit weak.

.It's comon to hear people say that a piped blaster beats a 400ex, like its a big acomplishment. If you think about it, the blaster is way underpowered for a 200cc 2 stroke. 200cc 2 stroke should keep up to a 400cc 4 stroke easily, i don't get why people act like it is such a big deal.

but the blaster has 6.6:1 compression stock and the intake and exhaust ports are very small. the 400ex has at least 9:1 compression and isn't nearly tuned down as the blaster. it is a big accomplishment when an entry level sport quad can beat an intermediate sport quad with just a pipe. and dollar for dollar it is a good accomplishment. used blaster $1500 used 400ex $3000 pipe filter and jets for blaster $300 bucks. 1800 v.s 3000. that gives you another 1200 to spend on chassy/suspension mods to make it out jump and out handle the 400ex. my $0.02

I agree that the blaster is a great value used, but I would buy a used 400EX before I would buy a used blaster and drop $1500 additional dollars into it. I prefer the reliability/longevity of the 4 stroke and I love the handling and the plush feel of the 400EX. IMO
Of course I bought my EX new so I don't know how a used, worn in $3000 400EX would feel.
