For a utility, the Rincon has awesome handling and it's not exactly slow. I can beat stock 300exs all day long on it. Really smokes them through the trails. It was made to be tortured and ran for miles like in the Baja.

The last Rincon that won baja hit top speeds of about 75 I heard.

The key to winning the Baja 1000 is to keep moving. I'm sure that the modified quads just had more problems than normal. They spent to much time in the pits, being worked on. The reliable Rincon just kept plugging along at medium pace and beat everyone else to the finish. I'm sure it had nothing to do with mud or nasty terrain. The course is setup to allow many types of race cars run on it, most of them are 2wd cars. If a sections gets to bad (mud, silt or snow) before an event, the score officals will reroute the course. Most of my life I have asked to myself "what if all the fast guys broke and someone in the slower class won overall?" Well, this is one case where that did happen. It's neat to see the slower class take the overall. They did a great job and earned the victory. But that does not mean that the Rincon is faster than all the other quads. I just means it was on that day, at that race. It's simply a matter of fact, that someone had to win the overall and that was the team with the least amount of down time.

yes they were re-geared for the Baja and could go 75mph and they have a few problems and still did very well, like driving on three tires.

Well, I'll have my TRX450R by the middle of January 2004- not 05 or 06

So when you see a bike that looks like a Honda smoking you, it will be...............

There is one Yammie 450 racing the Baja1000 that I know of and that is Greg Row and Wayne Matlock. Bombardier has two DS650 racing. (one is ridden by me) Honda has two 450r racing but i dont think Farr is racing one. Eichner on one and Danny Rudd on the other. The Rincon won last year because all the fast quads had major downtime.

Factory backed Rincon won. There's a big difference. It wasn't stock. The only thing they admitted to was what was seen by the eye. The modded machines are being worked on to much. Always wrenching on them. Them guys just can't sit still. Mechanics disease. If it ain't broke make it break.

The racing rincon wouldn't have any advantage in the mud anyways because they removed the 4 wheel drive on it anyway.

If I remember correctly, the Rincon was getting up to max speeds of 72 miles per hour during the Baja 1000 - they take off the 4-wheel drive and everything, and they don't ride it like a big slow ute quad!!!!

I just want to know the other modifications they did to that Rincon. I wonder what they did with it after the race also...maybe in a museum or something?
