Trailers or hauling an ATV
#1
What is everyone using to haul their ATV's around? I'm most likely thinking a trailer would be the way to go. Enclosed or open??? Anyone seen a trailer that can serve two purposes....tow the atv and have the atv tow the trailer?
Thanks in advance for your help!

depends on what your needs are?
I liked my old 5x8 wire mesh floor/tilt gate flatbed when I just did close trips with my 400.
I love my 6x12 enclosed now. It is more secure and I use it for just about everthing. You can even camp in it if you want, and they are really fun to customize to your needs. Its extra storage also.

I use to haul with a trailer that I bought at Lowe's for $550,extremely nice 5'X8' trailer, fold down gate, mesh bottom, high quality. Until it got a flat waaaaaaaay out in nowhere and of course my stupidity I forgot to bring along the spare trailer tire(have to buy seperate $50)I was stranded all because of this trailer and my stupidity if I only would have bought the ramps instead of the trailer and put it in the back of my truck I would not have this problem.
Well now I own a pair of the tri-fold extended length(86") ramps from Bass-Pro Shops,it takes me about 30 seconds to put my 04 ForeMan in the back of my truck I also have a tailgate extender for my gear.I don't have to worry about flats anymore on the trailer, don't have to have extra space at my home to store a trailer, don't have to worry about someone stealing my ATV and my trailer and don't have to have extra space to park my truck and trailer when going to ride, just drop the tailgate pull the ramps down and go!!
Just My Two Cents

I have an open utility trailer with fold down gate (nice for driving up into) and metal sides that can easily hold 2-quads and all the gear. Another quad can ride in the back of my truck (shell off of course). I have a 30' fifth wheel that's only a couple of years old but I'm wishing now that I had bought a toy box.

My favorite means of hauling the ATV is in the back of our truck. It is by far the easiest. Set the ramp, fold up the ramp, slide it ubder the ATV, tie the ATV down and be gone. If we take both ATV's then we have to take trailer. My wife would rather tow the trailer with the Bronco because she hates the truck, she says she doesn't like riding around in an old rusted truck. It's the third vehicle, the spare, the one that always starts. It's just fine for me. If we only had one ATV, the trailer would go.

I'm in the process of shopping for an enclosed trailer - something on the order of a 6x10 or 6x12 - that I can also use for more than just hauling the ATV's. Like Bing suggested, you can camp in an enclosed trailer, lock the toys up in it so they don't take up valuable garage floor space, have a place to hang out away from the sun or rain and be able to use it for other stuff, like hauling sheets of plywood from Home Depot. I presently have a 5x8 open trailer that is just too small to try to fit my new 400EX and a dirt bike on.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Any suggestions on manufactures? For both enclosed and open trailers? The only enclosed one I can think of right off is Wells Cargo and they are extremely pricey. I came across what a deal trailers (http://www.whatadealtrailers.com/) on the side of the road. They seemed to be pretty well built, but then again I really know nothing about them so take that comment for what it is worth. Also you have to install the decking yourself on these trailers.
I'm likeing what you guys are saying about the enclosed trailers. Sounds like it would be more versatile for hauling different things.
Please keep posting your thoughts.
Thanks,
Todd
