400EX??? THE BEST EVER??? The BEST trail quad MUST have reverse. To be the "BEST" anyway. For the trails I ride, or make, if you don't have reverse, you are pulling an awful lot in deep mud or very tight area with many trees. The guys with 400EX's in my group will NOT lead the pack for that very reason.

400EX came out when? 98/99?. It doesn't even have reverse. The Warrior has been out since 87. Yeah, the 400 was an improvement over the warrior, but that is why honda made it. To compete with the warrior. I am not brand loyal, but the warrior is, and has been a solid machine for a long time.
There are many variables you can throw into this discussion. 250R, nope. LT250R, nope. Zilla 500, nope, but I heard they are nice trail machines. The real deciding factor here has to be the inclusion of reverse, and electric start. Yamaha got it right a long time ago. Ever wonder why the design for the warrior has not changed. It is because it works, and it is reliable.

"IRVINE, Calif. -- Despite injuries that sidelined some of its top motorcycle and all-terrain vehicle (ATV) off-road racers, Kawasaki Team Green™ finished up the 2003 Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) racing series with the six championships, including two motorcycle titles and four ATV titles
In the ATV classes, Team Green's Mike Penland clinched the ATV Utility Stock class championship title aboard his Prairie® 700 4x4, while teammate Scott Kilby rode his Prairie 700 4x4 to ten consecutive wins to seize the ATV Utility Modified title.
In his first year as a Team Green ATV racer, Bryan Hulsey seized the ATV Vet class championship title aboard his KFX™700 V Force™ sport ATV. In similar fashion, Adam Howell's four wins and consistent finishes aboard his V Force earned him the ATV 4-Stroke Stock crown."
Hmm I would have to say the best trail's bike's AT THE MOMENT are the Prarie 700 if you want a 4x4 or the V Force if you want a 2wd. I don't know about the best EVER but I would rather have a modern machine that is evedently capable of going cross country and on trail's just my opinion though.
