Yeah i know, what is this the 17th time ive post something about carb or what?? god, well i had everything going great, me and another guy moved the carb clip up one cuz it was running rich, then i went out and rode it, it ran great for like 100 yards, then i jumped a little hill and the slide come disconnected from the throttle in the carb. at first, me being a novice and not checking things over, opened up the fuel bowl and checked the jets and such, they were good, then i saw it was disconnected, great thats all it was, so i got everything put back together and in the machine, i start it up and the damn thing was reving like it was at half throttle!!!!! i messed with the idle screw and the thumb throttle adjustment, but no, that didnt do jack crap so now im stuck with a 250X that wont idle!! anybody got any ideas what is wrong, im thinking it might not even be in the carb, so somebody please help! thanks guys

Not knowing your experience with carbs, I will start with the most likely problem. The slide has to be lined up properly, or it will not drop all the way which would explain the reving, if it is installed properly, you may have a peice of grit that won't alow the slide to drop. If this doesn't work let me know.

Yeah make sure it is in there properly, if it is still stiff spray some WD-40 on the slide it should help it.

One way to check proper slide operation is to take the intake hose off of the carb, operate the throttle, and the slide should move all the way up and sit back down (it sounds like yours is hung in the up position).

Check for a air leak .Also check fuel flow to the carb.

how would i check for an air leak, and it that was the problem, wouldnt it be running lean?? are we talking in the air box or airbox hose, or the rubber between the carb and head?

Spray the intake boot between the carb and head with wd40 while it is idling and see if it affects your idle. However, this is not your problem. Sucking air will not cause the atv to rev up. You need to correct the problem with the stuck throttle (revving) and then readjust the carb.

Just a tip. I always see people that are ridng that have an abrupt carb problem. They immediatly beginn adjust a carb that was adjust perfectly for the last year. How did it get out of adjustment?
IT DIDN"T.

Another tip.

If you think you have trash in your carb or it is gummed up, try removing the gas line from the tank and pour yamaha carb cleaner mixed 50/50 with gas into the gas intake line for the carb. (of course drain the carb first) This will dissolve most trash or gummy residue. Leave it in there for several hours. I don't think the manufacturers reccomend this, but I have been doing it for years and have not had a problem. Also do not put berrymans 5-12 in the carb this way. It will swell up the o-rings.

Hope this helps.

Greg

I am pretty good with carburetors and dont think that i knew it got out of adjustment cuz it did, when the clip was moved up it ran better than before, so im pretty sure that this carb wasnt tuned real well, its just now that the idle wont come down and i tried adjust the throtte more but there is no more adjustment to it. now what, and like i said in a previous post i have had the carb cleaned and apart several times. its not gummed and no residue is left over, its the throttle and slide i believe. thanks
