Default 440ex top speed?

heh my friend has 2 quads, 1 being a 98 Honda 300EX (STOCK) and other being an older 300 Suzuki Utility Quad with a speedometer on it. we were trying to get an estimate at about how fast his 300 goes top speed, we found a long stretch of highway with no cars around and i was on the 300 Suzuki and he was on his, the suzuki speedometer went up to 70 or 80 i beleive, the 300 was faster off the line but top speed both of them were the same just about, the suzuki went about 62 top speed and the honda went 65, so i would assume the 400 with that kit could easily do 75.
just my 2 cents.

diestevedie... well your VERY wrong with your guessing of speeds... a 300ex doesnt go anywhere near 65 without many many mods (internal/external) and I have ridden a suzuki 300 king quad.. it goes 45-50 depending on rider wieght and terrain (stock) also, jut incase you didnt know this, the speedo goes up to 60 ( just like the rest of them ) so get your info straight before you post and look stupid.. as far as how fast that 440 goes, i wouldnt doubt it could reach 75 with the right set up. but i also agree with the rest of the people saying you have to gear it to change your top end speed. no way adding 40cc's is going to give you 6 mph more without you changing your gearing, spockets...ect. thats my opinion, take it for what its worth.

no idea on either of them, and the speedo on the quad king wasnt stock it went higher than 60, and as i mentioned we were on pavement and probably went over half mile before checking speeds, yfz/rap top speeds would be in the 70's or low 80's i would guess stock, although a yfz locally on pavement has been clocked with the gun by CHP for 106MPH but he has many mods etc.

you are wrong if you do mod on the motor, you can go faster its not only the gearing

Yes but not anything really noticable, and how it works is that with the increased ratios comes a need for increased HP to turn it but increasing the HP will only show small gains in top speed and the gains will be in getting to the top speed with just add HP.

If your really into this stuff look around the net and you will find all kinds of theory and formulas for figuring how fast just about anything will go and what changes in weight, ratios and power will do to those speeds etc.

Personally I just accpet that it takes a certain amount of power to turn a certain ratio to a speed of X rather than working all the formulas and spend that time riding so I can actually do something more than go in a frickin straight line with what ever power this thing has, so blah blah blah/

Okay, can a 400ex go 70 or 75? Yes, BUT think of how it can. You take lets say a 22" Holeshot rear tire, get it going down pavement or a hard packed dirt road.....as you go faster, the tire "donuts" out, increasing the tire diameter......and the larger the tire diameter, the faster you will go......so there you have it folks.

The mods will only get you there faster. You are limited by the gearing and the tires. Also, is the ground or surface that you are running on. with stock you might not be able to hit the top end or stay on the top very long, but with the 440 you can get up there faster and stay on top. If you want to know the top end speed us this and it will give it to you.

You will find that most quads in a type grouping will have about the same topend speed with a few mph.

Is everyone getting it that you can gear a quad to do good at top speed or low end etc. but its more about a whole package to get to serious top speed numbers (say 90+mph).

I know some people are knowing a lot on this stuff but wonder if there are any who just remember the actuall numbers and have no idea to the "how" and will not be able to decide for themselves if certain claims seem possible in the future.
