i think it depends on what surface he was riding on. i have no experience with a gps either. however, i was clocked on my 400ex that had: curtis sparks pipe, open airbox lid, cdi box, 16 tooth front sprocket, and jetted at exactly 75 mph. i was clocked with a truck and a honda F3 bike. both said the same 75 mph. however, i was on a paved road. after i did my cam/piston i have not been clocked yet. i do know that i did gain some top speed, but not much. i think it just has more power to pull the bike a little faster. also, i don't have stock gearing. gearing is what makes speed more or less given that you have the power to pull it. as far as the raptor goes, my bike won't keep up with one in the upper gears. too many people are not getting the full power out of their 400ex's because they jet it too big. for example, a 170 keihin mainjet is too darn big unless your heavily modded. this size main will hurt your top speed a decent amount. also, a throttle cable not adjusted properly will also kill your top speed. when running a full pipe, cam, piston, filter, and modded airbox lid you will be needing right around a 160 keihin mainjet. a 158 is good for warmer months and for the really cold months a 162 is about right. this is for jetting where i live which is a few hundered feet above sea level. just remember that keihin jets and dynojets (or jets that come in a jet kit) have a different numbering pattern. so a 150 keihin is not a 150 dynojet. i don't know the dynojets too well since i use keihin jets. i don't know, the speeds calculated by gps may be different than a truck and a bike. my opinion, his 440 should be able to do over 70mph easily on a road. a piped raptor hit 82 using the same truck on a road. just remember there is a big difference between 5mph when riding an atv though.
