Default TRX300 4x4 with front locker

I posted a message about this in the suspension/tires forum yesterday but have had no replies.
I'm considering installing a locker on my Honda 300 4x4. Besides affecting the steering in 4 wheel drive mode, when I ride in 2 wheel drive mode (I have a Warn 424 select) will the steering still be difficult? A Detroit gearless is way out of my budget right now, and I might have the chance to get a "gear" type locker fairly cheap. How much does a HighLifter gear typically cost and what would be a fair price for a used one?

Yes it will still steer hard. Your front wheels will still be locked and turning at the same speed.

I have this installed on my Forman, also with a 424.

I find steering on pavement at very low speeds really tight. Steeering on gravel is not much different than stock, and steering on any surface at speeds greater than 10 km/h is also no different than stock.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I kinda assumed it would be the way you described, I just wanted to make sure. Is there any device out there that allows you to lock/unlock the front diff, similar to the Warn 424 Select for the front drive shaft?
