Default CrackCase Fuqage

I got a 300ex and the chain came off and cracked the crankcase.....Is it possible to weld it just on the outside or would i have to ripe the hole damn motor apart and weld the inside too?

if you just cracked it and it didnt break into pieces, then you can just weld the outside but have a really good welder weld it for you. aluminum is hard to weld because it doesnt puddle good. now if small pieces broke off and there i a visble hole in the crankcase, it would be best to disassemble it, weld the inside and clean it thoroughly

okay thanks, its just a crack, no hole.....they guy i had beef up the motor looked at it and said i would need a new cranck case, when i suggested it be welded, he looked at me stupid and said he would have to pull the whole motor apart and charge me like $600 for the labor

looks like he was just trying to make some money. i would highly recommend a "case saver", they're about $30 on ebay. its really good insurance so even if your chain breaks again it will just scratch up tha case saver and not your engine case
