450R wins atv class in Baja 1000
Thats O.K. Donlop would run win ads on me because they like the way it sounded "Dunlap wins on Dunlops" which lead to more confussion to the point that even the editors of the magaziens would get it wrong.
As far as Honda cheating, that would never happen. The rider may have did something wrong but Honda or anyone in management would never tell a rider to do something that could possibly reflect poorly on the company. A ex team mate of mine did get caught cheeting once and Honda got very mad at him and the next year he didnt ride for them again.

Some friends of mine raced (and won!) sport class dirt bike in the Baja 2000. They said with the dust and all, it is easy to take a wrong turn and get lost, etc. It is real possible that a rider can get off course and it looks like they are taking a short cut.

Congrats to Honda for winning again this year, but after the Rincon team cheated last year, I will always question the legitamacy for their wins in the baja 1000.
I do not think the manufacturer had anything to do with the decision to cheat, but that does not take away from the fact that Honda got the credit when it belonged to someone else.

Anybody know the story on the YFZ???? It did finish. It is a tribute to any bike to just finish these endurance races. Any info on the other teams? This race seemed to have a great number of DNF's. (16 Starters, 7 Finishers)

Yes the YZF from Alba Action Sports did finish. I believe it came in 5th but don't quote me. That was ridden by Wayne Matlock and Greg Row.
As far as the cheating rumors....it seems every race there are those accusations. Can you get lost? Absolutely, even the most seasoned vet of baja can get a little lost and I know some of the riders on the Honda team and they are quite honarable. Is there some shaving of the course, absolutely! Most everyone (not all) do it but if what I heard is true, then cutting may be an issue because if it is true SCORE cameras caught a quad running a length of BEACH (pretty easy to detirmine they weren't supposed to be there for as long as it claimed since a beach is an easy landmark to track time on as a racer) when they weren't supposed to go that far down it could be troublesome for the accused team.

The Gilberto Santana team made the short-cut "mistake" possibly twice? (Once with the Baja win with the Kawasaki 700 and possibly with the previous win with the Rincon.)
Also, there was something about the Kawa win that it would have been 2 "wrong turns" equaling 7 minutes each cut off the time.

It seems that everyone in this furom thinks that Honda won the race when in fact, the riders are responsible for the victory. I'm not taking any credit from the 450r, but you must first analize that most the riders piloting the 450r's are seasonal riders/ competitors and they have the ability to get any machine to win a race. I'm not trying to pick whos better a YFZ or 450r, but just making a point. I think we all should celibrate that a new era of performance atv begun, and stop bashing each other.

Gee, Farr, Gregory, Eichner...could be the machine, or maybe just a stacked team!! From info I found there were only a total of 19 quads in the 1000. I think you could've put that team on a powerwheels kiddie jeep and they still would've won. Okay, maybe I'm exaturating. Just remeber that a lot about the win goes to the riders. The TRX is a sweet quad, but there were some fast guys piloting it! Eichner was riding that Rincin last year when it won too, give the riders the credit where it is due!
