450R wins atv class in Baja 1000
JJFAT and pudljumper-"To finish first, you must first finish". Your machine has to last to the finish line, no matter how great a rider you are! All those DNF's were probably great riders, but their bikes let them down out there on the trail!! True, it is a test of man and machine, but no single rider ironmans the whole race, so at least rider fatigue isn't the biggest issue.
True, the Honda teams probably had the advantage of great support and professionally run pits. But, as for the Yamaha factory, they didn't even show up!!

When you look at the first 5 teams that finished, what stands out. Honda had 5 racers on one team, and 4 on the other. The other teams only show 2 racers. 4 or 5 bodies will be a lot fresher then 2.

Eichner was not on the winning Rincon team last year. There were 5 or 6 teams with really good riders, any one of them could have won. The Honda 450r team with Eichner had a solid race with no problems that I know about. Big props to the new Honda for lasting through the worst Baja 1000 course ever! I rode 60 miles with no front brakes and another 70 miles with a flat tire after fixing the front brakes. We had zero luck on our side this year!
