Greasing fresh factory bearings
#1
I just got my 300ex's axle back together and when it was all done, my friend called and we were talking about it and he asked me if I had opened the cartiage bearing and packed it with grease, of course I didn't, I think I would have but I honesly just forgot, do you think it is worth it to put more grease in them, I don't honesly think the problem with ex's bearings are because of not having enough grese. Every time on my 300 the sproket side goes first which means that they just can't handle the torque, I feel sorry for the guy with out double rowed bearings in 250r's and 400ex's you guys must eat them like candy, christ my 300 take's new ones ever 6 to 8 months.

Don't worry about it. ATV bearings usually only go out after getting water in them. If you left the seal alone, they will probably last longer.

What kind were they? I was thinking stock. I've had aftermarket bearings go out in as little as two weeks from not being greased enough. But, every stock Honda bearing I have ever gotten has been well greased.

if the bearings are sealed they should not be disturbed, if they are not sealed they should be packed, i mean the grease should be worked into the bearing not shoved into it. over greasing a bearing will create heat and premature failure, wheel bearings should be replaced with sealed bearings whenever possible due to the fact that the seal systems on quads wear a lot. wheel bearing are a pain allmost as much as drum brakes.
