Would it be a dumb choice to buy a 250r? Its a ct racing 350 powervalve. Are they going to soon baned two strokes at pismo? About what is the HP of teh ct racing 350 Powervale??

 

My friends 310 makes around 55 horse so I am going to say 65 70 if its a PV

 

The old 250 R's are being replaced by the new 450's (that is probably what the guy selling you his is getting!)

I'm not bashing the R. . . it has been THE quad for 10+ years but, the industry is going to the 4-stroke 450's.

How much is he asking for the quad?

As for weather or not you will be able to ride at Pismo. . . you should be fine. I think you will be grandfathered in with the R. But, you will be doing a lot more engine work on the R than those with the new 450's will ever have to do.
