Rancher vs Bruin
if yer going plowing, why not go with 4x4...one thing for sure, you WILL plow more with 4x4 than 2x4....there's a lot of people gonna come back saying that they can do so much with a 2x4...and yes, they are great machines...but they have 2 wheels pulling instead of 3 or 4.....but you will defnitely plow more with a 4x4.

having purchased 2 2003 quads- 1 yamaha and 1 honda i can honestly give a real comparison.
the honda has been trouble free and still as tight as the day i bought it.
as for yamaha , it was a nightmare from day one. and they have the poorest customer service bar none. see "worst purchase ever LEMON" under yamaha section if you want the whole story. continued on "dealer smashed my atv"
i let people drive the yamaha and then the honda, most say the difference is night and day. every1 prefers the honda.
the new yamaha is much better, but still is no where near the quality of the hondas.
go to the dealer and get right under the 2 bikes- take a look at the quality of the frame and the welding you'll see a difference right away. every one has their own opinion, but you want to listen to people who have owned both. "my friend's brother had one" accounts are all over the place but you need the opinion of people who are riding both everyday.
if you are doing work with it, check out what most of the farmers are using- they're working those atvs hard everday.
granted i agree the yamahas seem a little sportier but if i could do it over again i would have bought 2 hondas.
best of luck

There are two quads in my garage right now....a 1996 Yamaha Big Bear...and a 2002 Honda Rancher....i like both of them....i find the BB geared a little lower and a great work bike....also rides a little more comfortable than the Rancher...the Rancher is only a couple of years old yet, but it apparently has less problems than the big bear....by the time the Big Bear was 2 years old i had replaced brakes, ujoints, and a couple of other small things....engine runs perfectly....all the time....i think the only thing the rancher has over it is reliability....but as i said, it's still new.

Does anybody know the top speed of the rancher ? im looking to get the manual shift model cause i want the most speed a can get. Is this atv even worth putting a winch or skid plates on my buddy told me its was a girl atv. He rides bombardier 400 max , also owns the 330 mode he says he like riding the 330 wishes it was 4x4. So saying that the rancher is close to the same cc`s as the 330 can it keep up on the trail. Im looking for my first atv and got a budget around $5,000 any help caue i want reliability cause i live so far from the dealers.
