is it possible to put a 6-speed transmission on a 400ex? it seems to me that unless transmissions are extremely expensive, that this would be the cheapest way to add 5-10 mph to my top speed. ne help would be awesome, thanx.

 

I don't know, that would be awesome if they did. i know i'd buy it. Im sure it would be quite expensive $1000+

 

nuthing against honda but a 6-speed it would take forever to reach a max speed and it would be ridicouls slow accerlation just my 2.c

Couldn't changing the sprockets help give what is needed?

 

changing the sprockets would give me the added speed, but then i would have much less acceleration, and it would put a serious damper in my hill climbing ability. i don't understand how adding a 6th gear to the tranny would take away the acceleration. I would keep all of the same gearing as stock, except have a close ratio 5th and 6th gear. the engine would perform the same, it's just that the extra gear would give u that little extra speed.

 

Is 5th gear 1:1? You wouldn't need a 6 speed, just 5th gear that was overdrive.

 

i have absolutely no idea what the ratio is for 5th gear. i don't really understand what overdrive is, so i wouldn't be able to say if that might work.

 

Have you guys noticed your engines lately? That engine and transmission comes as one package. It's not like a car transmission that you can just remove and replace with another model.

C'mon man. theres not enough power for a 6th gear. You would never be able to use it anyway.
