I can't say which one would be faster, but i'd lean toward the Honda because of it's true 450cc displacement and larger carburetor, and yes- I'm biased in favor of Honda as well.....

My brother raced one on his 400ex which only has a DG pipe, k&n, and rejetted. Anyway, he raced the YFZ and kept up with him into 2nd - 3rd gear. After that the YFZ spanked him of course. But that's pretty sad that a slightly modded 400ex can keep up with the YFZ even for a second.
I am not bashing it because it's an awesome quad, but I am just stating my own experiences with it.

That does'nt surprise me....a 400ex leaves the line very well. But when power is needed it signs off.

The TRX stands a pretty fair chance of beating the YFZ . For one it's Higher displacment Yamaha is 440cc Honda 450cc
Although it's not the same engine as the CRF450 the valve train is the same with a differnt grind on the cam do some reading on the CRF450's there have a few problems with the Valve train also read around the Thumper forums and you will discover theres a few connecting rods breaking . The Honda trx has a lower compression ratio than the CRF but it will be pulling harder much harder . Hope honda gets theres bugs out before people spend there cash

Well if you take a trx off the end of the assembly line and dont tweak the motor that would give to a relative perspective on the powerplant From what I read on the Baja machine the powerplant was stock the chassis had some mods for desert Do you think that engine came off a show room floor or do you think it came out of the Honda skunk works . I mean theres tons of part you can massage and areas of the interal that can be cleaned and enhanced and still stay at stock tolerences . Dont get me wrong I think it's going to be a killer machine ! but it might have a higher maintance schedule than the YFZ
I hope they fixed the valve problems that would be GREAT keep your fingers crossed

I saw a 450R this past weekend at the last round of ITP quadcross. It raced againist yfz's. The 450R had a whitebrothers pro carbon pipe $1000 pipe. It might have had the hrc kit but i'm not sure but it seemed to run pretty well was about 1 1/2 bike leangh's behind th yfz's with pipes at the end of the straight(5th gear straight). I bet there going to be so close that only the rider will make the difference.
