I own both. They both have the same motor mods (K&N, vented airbox lid, PowerBomb Header, Ti-4 muffler). The Z is considerably faster.

if money is an issue, definitly get the 400ex and mod it, the z400 is only slightly faster and has only 3-4 more ponies so a lightly modded 400ex should be able to keep up with a z400, that is if the 400ex is modded correctly. as for the 450R; its more of a full race quad, not really in the same class as the ex or z

correct.........a lightly modded ex will keep up with a stock Z
buy why start with a slower quad?
why not just get a Z and be able to out run lightly modded ex's?
stock for stock the Z will put SEVERAL lengths on a ex.......I have seen it with my own two eyes

I have seen a stock Z out run an ex (yoshi full system, stage 2 hot cam,k&n..I don't remeber if the airbox was vented or if he removed the box all together?)
the Z won by a little more that one length.......but it was COMPLETELY STOCK and the ex was modded......

I have a 426ex, beats allot of other quads and my son loves it, but wants a 450r now. So I guess what I'm saying is get what you want, but you will want something faster later anyway.

I personally watched a completely stock Z400 with a relitavely inexperienced driver put at least 10 lengths (from what I could tell) on a piped (at least) 400ex. I was impressed.

I agree with the posts saying that a Z will put lengths on a ex. I have owned both ( I just sole my built 426ex) and its not as close as many say, but people call BS, so I just say its a little faster. In reality, you need motor work on a ex, to keep up with a jetted Z.
