Needle clip adjustment on 400ex carb.....HELP
#11
LS at GT Thunder stated during his exhaust testing, I believe, that the flat spot on modified EX's is caused by the unequal length header tubes used by most systems except the DMC Dual.
Anyway, good luck!

EXtreme . . . you better look into that posidrive screwdriver. I think Gabe is right because I stripped 3 screws jetting my carb. 1 for the bowl, 1 in the top plate and 1 for the slide. After soaking in carb cleaner for a while they broke but it pissed me off so much that I just put the stripped screws back in . . . hope I can get them out to replace them! I must be a horrible mechanic because I also stripped one of the bolts for the oil filter cover.
P.S. you don’t need to take the gas tank off to get to the carb but it does take some tricky maneuvering.

Yes, the Posidriv screws are identified by a small dot in the head near the slots for the driver. The screws in the top of the slide, covering the needle clip have dots, I can't remember about the rest.
The posidriv, I believe is a Japanese standard that is less prone to "camming out" as opposed to a standard Phillips (when using the proper screwdriver
). Some say that using a Posidriv (also known as Supradrive) screwdriver is more likely to remove a stripped standard Phillips screw, but I know from experience that a Posidriv screwdriver will not work better on a Phillips screw that is not stripped.
Hope that all made sense....

Thanks for all your help....it was a success story. In fact, the screws were Posidrive but I used the best phillips head in the tool box and they broke loose with no problem. The job looked alot harder than it really was. The outcome: so far after little testing, it does seem to perk up in the low-mid areas. Still have to do a plug read to make sure and further run it on the trails to be sure and satisfied in the seat of my pants. Boy is that clip little!
