Default 250R Sleeper?

I recently picked up a decent 86 250R. Instead of restoring it, I am thinking about making it a sleeper, of sorts. I would kinda like to leave it looking ratty, but have it drag pretty strong. So far, this is the parts list:

88 or 89 Honda cylinder with drag porting,
Pro Design Cool head, with race gas dome,
ESR TRX 5 or TRX 11 Pipe
38 or 39 mm carb,
V-Force Reeds,
86 length swingarm.

This setup sounds pretty mild to me, but how does everyone think it will run. I would rather use a Honda cylinder instead of going with a Pro X, I would also like to keep lots of the local Banshee guys scratching their heads! Any Thoughts?

that sounds good so far! But in order to get the most out of your reeds and pipe, I'd get a K&N and maybe and outterwear lid for the airbox...it should run awesome imo, you could probably find a good hot rod crank on ebay for it to really spice things up!

Also, do you have the dyno chart for the TRX11? I'd be interested in seeing what it does....
The TRX5 is a good choice....it's an all around better pipe for the trx...and keeps getting better as the rpm's climb

Go get a 295 sleeve and have someone put it in. Then send it out to be re ported, and mabey even stroke the crank. Keep the carb, and if it is a 11 pipe then stay with that. Keep the v-force reeds. Dont run to much compression because you will loose top end. If you really want it to be an all out sleeper with the air box then leave th elid off and drill alot of holes in it. If not then buy a uni P.O.D filter.(clamps right on to the end of the carb, and you would have to buy an extention for the filter because of space. ESR makes an extension Then after that you can frocus on tires and gears ect....After all that you will def. be beatin off shees, and making them scratch there heads. If you have anymore questions dont be shy to ask.

Thanks for posting. I really thought about the 295 sleeve, but have heard of some real troubles with the heads sealing, therefore, I am considering keeping the bore pretty small. Also, I am currently using a K&N with the lid removed. The bike runs pretty strong in its current setup,(80's porting, stock carb, FMF pipe, V-Force reeds). But as soon as I rebuild I hope to be doing alot better. I do not have a dyno chart for the TRX 11 yet, I believe it will be similar to the CT Whale.

Actually, the 250 looks worse than stock right now. I just recently got it, so most of the aluminum that is on it is tarnished, the plastic is stained and old looking. The only factory stickers left are the ones down each side of the hood. I have painted the a-arms and swingarm, but the whole machine still rolls on its factory gold wheels. I may be on to something. Basically it looks like a trail bike out of the 80's. I even have an original Answer silencer! Ha ha.
