help 85 trx 125 no spark
ok i tried the test but i think im having a problem with my meter ita acheapo it has like x1 x10 hfe?? also when i do these tests should i have the batt in and key on??and should i be turning the motor over? well i had the bat in and im having a problem with like 2 of the readings im not getting anything i think on the 100 to 400 ohm test...maybe i have it on wrong setting?? thanks so much for your help this is driving mr crazy im never gonna get to ride this bike grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....
does that blk and red wire give the bike spark?cause when i test that wire it put out ac volts...ok so let me know thanks sry to drive ya nuts....

ALWAYS do restistance tests with the key off and the component unplugged. DCV tests usually, but not always, require the key to be on (and always require a good battery of course). ACV tests always require the engine to be turning over. The black\red wire supplies the RAW electricity for the ignition system.

ok dzzy this is what is happening ..when i probe the blk /red wire and ground i get no resisrtance but if i pull start it i get 40 volts ac.. and on the yellow wires they chk out to be good so what do you think ok the only thing im concerned with is that maybe i have the meter on the wrong setting?i changed it to all the settings and still no resistance it was on x1 is that the correct one ? ok thanks hope you see this im still going nuts i want to ride this machine in the snow this weekend thanks alpine..hey if ya wanna call me thats okay too 570-499-0646 thanks again..or even i can call you too if ya leave your number so i get charged.

If you get good ACV but the restistance reading is wrong, assuming your meter is working, the stator is probably bad. You seem a little uncertain, so I would get a good second opinion (hands on). A good tech whose worked on a few of that type of ignition system would get to the bottem of it in VERY little shop time. If you're not sure what resistance scale to use, start on the highest scale and work down.

putting the test meter in the black and red wire and pull start it the meter goes to around 30 from the stater. putting the meter on the black and red wire at the connection to the cdi, get the same reading. puting the meter on the coil wire comming from the cdi get no reading. there is cont. in the lines. does this mean the cdi is bad

You mean the black\yellow wire from the cdi to the coil I assume? I follow your reasoning and it makes sense, however I have found that trying to read this voltage is difficult (even with a peak voltmeter), I don't know why exactly. Except that particular test has not been definitive for me.

Help, trx125.
I have a 85 trx125, that I got from a buddy. He said the motor that was in it was smoking, but he had another motor. I put the new motor in and hooked everything up and it started right up. So I went to fixing everything else and once I got done and had it ready to roll a week later, it would not start. So I have figured out it is getting gas, but not Spark. From the gray wire I am getting voltage in any gear. The B/W wire im getting continuity with the run switch on, and none with it off. And the neutral and reverse lights do not work, not sure if the bulbs are out or what.
