You don't need to take off the tank to get the spark plug out. You do have to go buy Hondas spark plug socket kit thingy though. A regular socket won't fit in there. Ditto on charging the Battery (or get a new one) also check the jetting on the carrb as mentioned. These 400ex are cold blooded but really should start fine. It's usually the mods that make it worse. it'll blow up before you hit 3rd gear.....
