If you get a right side case cover and kickstart gear assembly for an xr400 off ebay it will bolt right up seeing as how the xr400 and 400ex cases are the same, you will have to do some cutting of your back fenders and some costomization of the kickstart and brake levers but it can be done

cuz e-start doesn't always work and kickstart can't fail, you just put no thought whatsoever in that statment.

420ex,
thanx alot you are alot of help. i have a questoin tho, why would you have to customize the brakelevers? is there a compression release lever or sumthing?

FastBansheeKid is right, kickstart can never fail and it's just as easy to start once it's been running as an E start is. I know this because i got 2 250R's(one a TRX other LT) that are both kickstarts and i had a Grizzly 600. in fact i thought the 250's were easier to start once they're warmed up. all you have to do is pull the clutch in, one kick should fire it right up if you kick it hard enough, and downshift till you get 1st or 2nd, give it some gas, let the clutch out, and give it hell. simple enough.

sorry, that was a typo, i meant you'll have to do some re-engineering of the rear brake pedal to clear the kickstart assembly
