oiling the chain
#1
The other day i went mudding on our 300ex.After I was done riding I washed it of course.Yesterday I went down to ride it and the chain was pretty rusty.I oiled it with some motor oil.I heard not to use wd-40 becuase it has kerosene and the kerosene braks down the o-rings.What do U guys recommend oiling the chain with??any help would be greatly apprecited. www.anglefire.com/me3/fmf86trx250r

just use chain motorcycle chain lube if its muddy clean off the chain before you put it on. but if its just a little dirt don't worry about it. put it on after you ride not before. if you put it on right before you ride it will fly off and get on everything. so just spray it on when you get done riding and adjusting your chain. later

I use Maxima chain wax on my Blaster. Clean the chain, then lift the back tires of the ground and rotate them as you spray on the wax. Let it set up for about 10 mins so it dosent fling off when you ride.

when you come on to the atvconnection.com they have a place you can go that is all about maintenance, one of the questions was "How to keep the chain lubed" I'm sure that it is still there anyway they suggested that you boil the chain in a frydaddy using motor oil. I know it sounds crazy but if you think about it it's a good idea, make sure you check there first and don't use the frydaddy from your house, french fries fried in 10w-30 probably tastes pretty bad.
I'll go and check and see if the maintence tip is still there and I'll let you know.

ok I checked it out and it is still there. It's under "Tech Tips" it's at the beginning of the atvconnection.com web page before you come in to the discussions forum, at the lower left hand corner, when you click on "Tech tips" scroll down and and somewhere near the bottom right you will see where you can open the tip called "Hot oil bath" it is really interesting and if my wheller wasn't shaft i would try it. good luck
