Rubicon help..
#1
my 2002 rubicon runs very poorly. it take about a hour 15min to warm up, and wont idle for the life of it. it has 1000 mi and is down on power any suggestions,
i have done the basics.
clean filter.
good gas
fresh oil
no pinched lines
exhaust is free.
i am confused my vinson take mabey 1-2 mins to warm up(if that) i am thinking of tradeing it in and getting another vinson(the rubicon is my plow vehicle.) it just has odd problems, like i am mudding, and i let off the gas and it stalls, it is all stock and backfires? i am at 800ft elevation. again my other bikes dont run like this, and i know what i am doing as far as mechanics wise, i am thinking the pilot jet is cloged.

i have rubicon had no problems with power but i have the service manual and it says for for lack power to check the oil level because that can effct it, it could be a faulty engine control module, fuel mixture could be too lean, check the plug and air cleaner. sounds like alot to check but i think its all pretty simple except ecm. good luck

Well, not sure if this help, but i am having a problem like that on this 2001 Rubicon my dad left me, it only had 860 miles on it, i had to purchase a new carb due to the lean mixture, i never seen such a cold blooded machine in my life, and its was this way since he bought it, i took my carb off my polaris and swap them on the Rubicon, with my carb the Rubican runs fine, with the Rubicon carb on my polaris, it would barely run, and i had the carb apart many of times, i am still waiting for it, should be in next week, and i hope thats all i have to do, i just got done replacing the trans control motor, and when this is done, this machine is going, too many eletronics on it, if they were smart with all this, going computerize, they should have just went fuel injective instaed od carb, like Polaris just did. And my dad didn't drive this enough either, but he got sick and couldn't ride it, he now passed, but my polaris can sit for 4-6 months and still start and run fine, reason i am saying this cause people said it was old gas in the carb causing all the problems, which was not true, the carb on the Polaris is about the same style, and we have another polaris that sits even longer, no problems with that one. But my Polaris has been a problem too, i might just trade them in on something new, have to see,

Sorry I don't have an answer for you. If everything was OK and it didn't take so long to warm up, you should still let it warm up for at least 5 minutes before riding. It states this in the owners manual because the trans needs to warm up and so does the oil for proper lubrication and operation. When we pull into the place we are going riding, the very first thing I do is start the ATV's, Let them start warming up as we get ready and the last thing we do is get them off the trailer. Every engine should be warmend up.

well guy sounds to me like you said snowplow fourwheeler so not run that often and the slow jet is plugged. If going to run in the winter it will take awhile for it to warm up cause it holds twice as much oil also (5.5 quarts). Put in 5w 30 if haven't done so and buy the 20.00 hotter sparkplug. Make sure the choke is working good (not sticking or halve stuck) If all else go buy a adhisve oil pan plug in heat and glue it to the oil tank. (they use them on cars and glue them to the oil pans helps them alot start in cold weather) GOOD LUCK

Well the rubicon is now fixed for the most part, i had to install a new carb, i can start it right up without stalling, it will drive out of the garage w/o stalling. I should have stated that i do warm all my vehicles up before operating them, but i am not going to push it out of the garage to start it because it keeps stalling. The other problem i am looking into is when i try to start the quad it will "click" like a faulty starter, batt., grounds or other connections, it will do this even with a batt charger on it, if i hit the frame,or engine, it will crank and start, i did check the connections and all, even bench tested the starter, all good, i am going to buy a new batt, i need a new one for my polaris anyways, i will try that, i hope its not in the switch, i just wondering if anyone seen this before, seems like a simple fix, last time i charged the batt for several hours, then when i tried to start it i smacked the frame under the seat with a hammer, then it was fine til i had it all back together, thats why i thought it was a poor electical connection, i will give it another look this weekend, thanks,
Jim
