highly modified 400ex vs. a z400?
I got news for all the EX lovers. If you have your EX built right you will HAVE to upgrade your clutch. You will also have a hard time running synthetic oils. The answer is a Hinson basket, heavy duty springs and a 250R clutch set-up. I went through 3 clutches after I got my engine back from CT in the spring of 2000.
If you have a 40hp EX and you are getting by with a stock clutch you are not riding your quad very hard. That is not a jab, it's just the truth.
That being said, dollar for dollar I'll take the EX over the Z. Who cares about liquid cooling and reverse, just something else to go wrong and maintain. The Z has a higher upside for racing but it is much more expensive to mod the engine on the Z and aftermarket racing parts are based on Hondas so they are cheaper and easier to find. With the release of the 450's, we should'nt be talking about modding these quads for racing anyways. [I know they do fine in GNCC but this will be the last year anyone compaigns them in the pro class. They only do it cuz they got dialed in last year and are rolling the dice that the YFZ's and 450R's will have teething problems]
