I was wondering how far behind would a stock z400 be against a highly modified 400ex andhow much faster is a stock z400 than a stock 400ex ?

the stock z400 isn't that much faster than the 400ex. the Z accerates a lil faster but they are about equal on top speed. a highly modified 400ex will blow away a stock z400.

 

Is the z400 reliable?

 

there have been many reports of weak frames and axles. the honda motor is bulletproof, suzuki claims that they fixed the frame problems but you never no..

 

Did they fix it in 03 or 04 because im getting a pretty good deal on a z400

You should do a search because this comparison has been brought up 100's of times. To me, I think a guy would have to get one heck of a deal to buy a 400EX over a Z because the Z does everything better and has reverse. Also, the 400EX suffers from clutch problems when highly modded. The stock 400 in a Dirt Wheels tst two years ago actually had a clutch failure. I guess I think saying the 400EX is bulletproof is overstating things a bit.

The early Z400's did have weak rear axles and some people had problems with the front frame cracking at at the upper shock mounts. My KXF is an '03 and have had neither of these problems.

 

The 03's had the problem but if its a good deal i wouldnt pass it up.

 

i think there equal quads once u mod either one of them the modded one willl DEF win. but i agree with fastbansheekid, the 400ex is more reliable.
