I think it depends on your expectations. Some people may be happy with a 300ex for years. I always think of the 250ex as a beginner quad because of the semi-auto. The 300ex has a clutch. Depending on your size, the 300ex can be more cramped than some. Two wheel drives are ok in the snow until it gets a little deep. Different tires might help you in the snow. The 300ex is a good quad just make sure it fits all your needs. It sounds like it might.

OK first off the 300ex is a great begginer - intermidiate quad!! it is not so fast where u cant control it yet when u want it to it has some pretty good get up and go. IMO you should not get a 400 because at this stage in your atv life u need to be focesd on learing skills and doing them right instead of trying to be the fastes person out there. it will be better for you in the long run. the 300ex wheelie so easy!! and its a great trail quad. but never tried mine in snow. i hope u make the right desicion.

i wouldnt get a z250 if u want a 250 get the 250ex but IMO dont get any 250 u might like it for a week but then you will want something with more power. the only reason and i mean only for getting a 250 is if u want an auto. clutch but u want be happy with a 250 get a 300ex by far the best choice for u.

if you know how to ride a quad already, get a 400ex. youll be bored of the 300 in no time, if your already doin wheelies and racing with your freinds quads now. the 300 is a good machine, but whatever you buy your probly gonna be stuck with it for at least a while, so i say better to grow up to something than get bored of something in a month. besides, with the 450r's out, dealers should be givin the 400's away. the 400's are a very reliable, predictable machine. if you already know how to ride a quad, you wont be intimidated by the 400, yes its fast, but you can still ride it slow untill you get used to it. oh, and you get used to not havin reverse alot quicker than you can get used to being passed, so dont worry about not havin it...

I ride with a guy who is 34 yrs old, has been riding for many years, is a very "crazy" stunt-street-bike-rider, and he rides a 300EX, granted it has a pipe/filter/jetted, etc, but he keeps right up with the rest of us in the trails and he can wheelie that thing for ever. The 300EX is plenty to grow into and easy to learn on.
