That's not what I read.
What I read was power was similar. Handling was similar, but for this rider, one aspect of the chassis - the front end seemed light. However, another aspect, the rear traction was better. I also read that he was unhappy with his YFZ in a few aspects.
Maybe looking at things thru your blue glasses filters some of that out to make this a 100% positive review for the YFZ and 100% negative review for the TRX?
Much of the rest of this discussion is all speculation.
I speculate if I put nitrous oxide on my TRX450R, it will develop more power than a YFZ with a Turbocharger - why? Because Yamaha's design sucks compared to the Honda. This is about the extent of these lame arguments - a baseless claim followed by little to no hard data.
Give it a rest already. They're both good quads, each with it's own qualities and drawbacks. Acknowledge it and go on.

Why?
Because you have 5 Yamahas in your sig and they're the best?
or by making comments like the one below to show how objective you are?

I am 100% behind you on that!
Tell me exactly why *you* believe the YFZ is better suited to MX (since I assume you've ridden both extensively & can provide a better explanation than just because you say it's so or because you read about it in a magazine) - and even if so, what that matters to me since that's practically the only form of racing I do not participate in (although I do use MX as a practice tool at times) & was not even remotely part of the subject matter being discussed here?

I agree that it may be hard for some Honda guys to face it if Yamaha is better, but you need to keep in mind that us Honda guys haven't really had anything to look forward to in the quad market for a long long while. The 250r's are anything but stock now-a-days. The fact that Yamaha fans presume that Honda fans are on some sort of a high horse is what gets irritating. Yamaha fans for the most part seem to be ready to jump all over the trx at the slightest little thing, and forget the negatives the Yamaha's have. I give Yamaha credit that they never backed down from building atv's, but I don't see the point in constantly bashing other manufactures because of a misdirected jealousy.

A stock 250r on an mx track is in fact dethroned in my opinion, not that there have been many around anyways. I can't speak for the TRX450R, but I can for the yfz. I have a 87 Honda 250r, CT racing motor with 89 cuts and ported polished, all that jaz, to a 265. I have plus 2" all around on holeshot beadlocks all around, stock gussetted frame, works triple rate shocks around, and paul turner pipe, and the usual racing requirements. (it's a nice bike). A bud of mine has a yfz with a FMF pipe, we are even in skill and neither can pull away from the other on the track. If I'm on his bike and he's on mine, I kill him. Not that the YFZ and the Honda 450r are better, but it's clear that the hay day for the 250r on a motocross track is over (largely in part of the ATVA, Don't forget Jeremia Jones was king on an LRD 250r last year). It's time to move on, I love my 250r, but lets move forward.

I just read the race reports at atv scene about the first GNC race. "Farr triggered first, but at the uphill straight, it was kory on the Yamaha." all I could say is that i am proud to be a YFZ owner and it was worth buying the YFZ. it was intended for strict competition on the mx track, and it prooved it. read for your selves. oh, by the way, did I mentioned its reliable too.
