TRX450R-What oil you going to run in your transmission?
#1
Owners manual says HP Trans Oil (which is 80W/85W), GN4, or HP4 (without moly). I think I will run trans oil, although 80W/85W seems like it would be to heavy for really cold weather. Most of the CR owners I have asked, run trans oil. The bike has a split case. You have seperate trans and engine oil, so I figure why run regular motor oil in the trans.

The majority of my CRF racers, and most of the KTM and YZF guys run the HP4 20W50 without moly in the transmission and HP4 10W40 with moly in the engine.

Yeah, I am going to run HP4M (with moly) in the engine. It is warm down here in So. Calif., so I think I will go with Trans Oil in the trans.
Just a side issue: I have heard not to run synthetic oil (HP4 is a synth/petrolium blend) during break-in. The dealer says they put GN4 (dino) in BOTH the trans and engine! I changed the oil/filter after the first 2 hours of break-in riding, and I will run GN4 for a few more hours, then switch to HP4M. Does that make sense, or is the no synth thing just an old wives tale????
