I have all the stuff in the diagram.
I put it all on the stem, with the exception of the bottom cover, then I can put the stem down into the place its supposed to go and press it all the way down. This may be right, I just thought it seemed like that nut on the bottom would be used to draw it down into the hole, meaning, everything would go in from the top but the nut would go on from the bottom.

I recently installed a burgard stem on my 88 R and its pretty much a pressed fit to install the stem into the bearing at the bottem....yes it is a ball bearing. tighten that nut untill the stem quits moving down. On mine it took some effort.
