That is more like it. They have to pay someone to set them up. They have overhead, they have other costs. I believe 25 percent is right and then they also get the hold back.

TOO HIGH!!! I'm getting 4999.00 out the door as a price from www.abernathycycles.com. It's a legit price. I layed their prices on my dealer and he came down 950 on a rancher ES 4x4.

I bought my 2003 Rubicon from Abernathy's for 5399 they were great to deal with. They'll try and sell you the extended warranty which is how they make up for the low quad price.

I was quoted 5600 for a rancher at gpscape. Farm use, no tax. Financed.

Bruce403, how did you get it? Shipped or did you travel to TN?
If shipped, how much was the cost for shipment?

quote:

dealer markups run around 25%, REGARDLESS of what they tell you. I have seen real factory
invoices from Kawi. Thus a $6000 quad cost the dealer in the range of $4500.

I tell you I work at a dealership And this is the most ignorant thing ive heard. The is not that kind of money in atv period despite what you think I do belive is is about 5200 in that range. But 25 percent markup no way maybe on a street bike but not an atv and we also sell kawasaki and I dont know what price sheet you looked at but its not accurate.

Hey Woodsruner, I went down to TN to pick up the Rubicon. They took care of all the paperwork required to buy a vehicle out of state. They were great to deal with, the prices are all on their website and there were no surprise setup fees or other charges, except the extended warranty they wanted to sell me. I got a good price by buying a leftover 2003 model in 2004.

I would like to inject a thought here. People are now beating their brains out trying to buy the Honda at the cheapest prices possible. I want a great bargain when I buy also. But remember a few things.

If you have to travel any distance to save money. The government pays their workers around 36 cents a mile. Add up your travel miles and add that to the price of your new Honda. The cost of your time. What could you be doing beside driving? Your meals, what if you blow hose, break a belt or blow a tire.

You get your new Honda home and you love it to pieces. The swing arm gives away, or something questionable happens. Lets say you have the extended warranty. It still does not guarantee you will get it fixed if it is questionable.

I buy my Rancher AT from my local dealer and pay him 700.00 more than I could Drive to Abernathys, I pay the full 540 for the extended warranty. I take my Rancher AT into the dealership for all maintenance.

Lets say my swing arm goes, or something that may be questionable. I am a firm believer that my local Dealer will work for me harder and go the extra mile to make it right.

The local Dealer is happy that he made a profit, and he is wanting me to come back and buy again.

You go to your local dealer and lay prices on him, he begrudgingly comes down and you think you have the best deal in town.
Do you think your local dealer is going to bend over backwards for you?????

Abernathy are probably really good folks. But they are pissing all over the other dealers. I work for a car dealership. We get people who bought all of their brand new cars away from our area, thinking better price.

Fine, Our company has to do warranty work for the customer whether they bought it from us or not. Our customers are first, they get a loaner car, the people who bought elsewhere do not. Our customers are in line first.

If three people call up and want service, our customers are always pushed in. If it is a car we did not sell, if we have time yes, if not, it can wait a day or two. It is not fair to our customers to put them behind people who did not buy from us.

Also if a person who bought their brand new auto out of town is having major warranty problems, we send them back to the dealer they bought from. It is that dealers problem to make it right for the customer. They made the profit.

Warranty work in the Car Dealership is not a money making proposition. The major manufacturer tells us what we will get for fixing warranty parts. No money is really made. Sometimes we lose money making customers happy.

I am not sure about quad dealers, but if I were a quad dealer, my prices would have to be set to cover my overhead. I may let one go out occasionally at a lower price if I think I am never going to see it again.

Abernathy are just that selling so cheaply to get people from all over to buy. they know they will never have to warranty many of the units they sell. They are also doing a disservice to the other dealers.

I would love to sell products all day long knowing I never have many coming back for warranty, hell, let the dealers in the owners hometown do the service. Just some things to ponder.

Do not **** your local dealer off. You may need them at some point and time.
