Default Dealer called back...OTD for Rancher AT now at...

$6100. I did not call them back, they called me. I told him that the original price they quoted ($6600) was just too high and that I didn't have to have a quad to make my life complete and could afford to wait for a better deal. When he asked me what I wanted to pay I told him that I did not want to pay over MSRP, for a Rancher AT that is $5999.

They offered it to me at $200 over. I have talked to every dealership in my state within 3 hours (1 way) of my house and several out of state one's that MUST have me in their showroom to make a deal with me. Well, I can't drive to every dealer in other states to make a deal but I would have driven there to buy the thing at the right price.

Anyway, it seems that at $6100 I cannot do any better. I live in NC by the way. What are your thoughts on this price? Should I buy an extended warranty? I think if I do I will wait as long as I can and search around for a better price than the dealer will offer. If Honda is so reliable am I just throwing the warranty money away, will I need this coverage?

Thanks

When you call around the dealer does not take you serious, if you walk in and are ready to buy that day you will be supprised how much they will deal. On the other hand you have your dealer who is offering you 200 over, that may indeed be a good deal for your town. Not all dealers sell lots of toys and that may be the best he can do to keep in business. One good thing about buying localy is that you know your dealer and do not have to drivve the three hours to get it serviced. Some dealers you will find it hard to work with when they find out you drove 3 hours to save some money and he might put your quad on the backburner to take care of his loyal customers. Take from this what you like but sometimes 200 bucks is not worth the hassle.

I bought a Yamaha but declined the extended warranty as I do my own wrenching and most quad do not break for along time if you don't thrash on them. My old Suzuki needed nothing for the first 3 years and that was just brakes, bearings went out at 5 years so none of this would of been covered on the ex-warranty. AlaskaBoy.

Check out Currie Chain Saw in Lumberton about 2 hours from you. I got my Rincon there for $6,299. They are a family owned business and great folks. They charge a few hundred over wholesale (well BELOW MSRP) Ask for Kevin he is the man.

I Just bought mine today, my o.t.d price was $5850. I did not buy the warranty. dealer cost on the Rancher AT is $5252. This unit has a 5% hold back paid to the dealer from honda. So they are always making more $ behind the deal that you don't know about.

$6100 is not such a bad deal.

hope this helps!

I really appreciate the advice! All three responses so far have been very helpful and insightful. It's been a struggle just to get it down to $6100 and I feel I've worked fairly hard at it. I had decided to hold off on the whole thing just after I placed the original post but I will most definitely check out Lumberton before I give up.

Thanks again.

Garbers Honda in Fairbury Nebraska is advertising Rancher AT in the paper for 5399.99. I bought my Rancher AT from another dealer in November and paid 5799.99. I called that dealer today for a friend of mine and my dealer is still at 5799.99 and Garbers Honda in Fairbury Nebraska is still at 5399.99. Hope this helps.

The Fairbury Dealer is a small dealer and he does not sell that many. I wonder what makes the larger dealers so high, other than added overhead.

I am sure that dealer price is lower than 5252 also. Dealers make a killing on these machines, plus they get the hold back on top. Most dealers have commissioned salesman. Maybe you were told 5252, but I doubt that is accurate.

dealer markups run around 25%, REGARDLESS of what they tell you. I have seen real factory
invoices from Kawi. Thus a $6000 quad cost the dealer in the range of $4500.
