Foreman gearing for different years
#1
I have a '96 Foreman 400 and a '00 Foreman 450es. The '96 has 24X10-11 wheels on back (stock). The '00 has 25X10-12 wheels on back (stock). Is the gearing different for these two machines? If I go to 26" tires on both, will the '96 struggle with the tire change more than the '00 (not taking into account the engine size)?

The 400 is geared somewhat lower than the 450, as far as I know. If you can find some info on the 450 to compare it with, here are the gear ratios for the 400, taken from a Clymer manual.
Primary reduction is 2.103
Secondary reduction is 2.100
Final reduction (differential ratio) is 3.153
1st 4.083:1
2nd 2.388:1
3rd 1.608:1
4th 1.178:1
5th 0.878:1
The literature on the 400 mentions ultra-low first gear for slow work and pulling, the other gears may be fairly close.

Those are the same as the 450. Thats good for me. Can you tell me what the Primary, secondary and final reductions are?
For the 450 they are:
Primary: 2.103
Secondary: 2.100
Final front: 3.153
Final rear: 3.153
For the 450 they are:
Primary: 2.103
Secondary: 2.100
Final front: 3.153
Final rear: 3.153
