for christ sake, run 1 tank of gas through it before you hold it wide open for miles on end. Ride it like you're gonna ride it if it didn't need to be broke in, just don't run it wide open in 5th gear for miles and it'll run better than if you did it any other way.

I really like your way the best! I have herd so many different ways of breaking motors in, and people tell me different pistens require different break ins... Some say run it ritch, other say run it lean. I just want to make sure that my 2500 dollar investment will be around for a long long time!

Take a look at this website. It should answer all you questions.
www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
And keep in mind if you are also breaking in a new cam you will want to keep the RPM's over 3000 at all times so the oil is properly pumping over the cam. You should also check valve lash after 60 min. of riding (check when engine is cold).

PUSHINTHELIMIT I wasen't being sarcistic at all. I like your way the best... I am guessing that you broke your machine in that way, and since you stand behind what you say, it must still be running. Today I went out and rode it for a couple of hours. Did some wheelies, a few donuts, nothing major. I didn't beat on it, but I did ride it. I need to have my machine broke-in in a hury. I have a riding trip planned I don't want to be breaking in a fresh motor down there. I want to be able to go ***** to the walls and just have a great time!

when i got my foreman, i took it easy for mabey the first 10 minutes. thats when i found a mudhole. sunk it. mud has to be one of the best places to break an engine in. i say this because i havnt had a single problem yet. plenty of power, uses no oil. i figure that you can destroy an engine during the break in period, but you have to try to do it. drive it like its new. you will want to take it easy but still see what it will do.

OutRacing here it the true break in procedure......
First fire up for the first 20 minutes run at 3k rpm no higher not to drop below 2k, change oil....Let cool completely adjust valves.....
than fire up run for the first hour not to full throttle until after first hour do not exceed 6k until after 2nd hour. Next change oil again, next let cool completely adjust valves again, your ready to rumble hard enjoy you beast and your fully broke in, run for another 6 hours change oil again and you good to go with synthetic oil a grade made for bikes like Mobile red cap. Ride on brother!
