250r or 400ex
#11
Gabe,
I know a 400EX is a very capable machine. My brother owns one(00' with WB pipe, and airbox mods, tires) and my roommate owns an 87' 250r(stock with exception of tires). I spend hours of time in the seat of both a 400EX and a 250r, and I can saftly say that a 400EX is closer to a 300EX, than it is too a 250R.
A 250r takes much more time too master. 2-stroke power is not as manageable as smooth 4-stroke thump. But after the 2-stroke power is mastered, the lower center of gravity, and lighter weight take over making the 250r a better racer.
At my last race(Parts Unlimited/Pace/Moose Off-Road Cross-Country Championship Series)there were 40 - 400EX's in the 4-stroke class, and I finished in front of 39 of them(on my so-called crap 300EX). 3 close to stock 250r's, and some Leager, Roll Design quads were ahead of that. NOT BAD!!!!!
I defend the 300EX because that's what I ride, and I am good on it. You defend the 400EX because that is what you ride, and you are good on that.
But if I had deep pockets and were a Professional racer, I would be on a 250r. But I'm not....
So I will sit here and defend my little 300EX, because that's what I got, that's what I race, and that's what I beat up on everyone else with.
If I win a District 23 race, you will be sure too hear about it. It is not likely, just because the winners drive quads valued at 3 times the price of mine. But you never know.
I am sorry if I offended you Gabe.
Who know's, if we could arrange it. I would love too meet you half-way and ride sometime.
Good luck with your racing, and be safe.
When the flag drops....the BS stops!
