You should pull the flywheel off and look at the stator. Make sure nothing looks odd and that nothing is dirty. You should also check the CDI box. Youl probably have to buy a new one if you dont have a friend with a 250R you can take off. Also make sure the motor is grounded out.

The stator/coils are fine that was one of the first things I checked. I tried the CDI off my friends and still no luck. His started with mine so mine is still good. I just need to go through all the wires and make sure theyre all hooked up right and grounding where theyre supposed to. man im really starting to hate my bike once I get it running its going for sale.

well, you rebuilt the top end, so its got to be something you did, no offense, like the only thing left that i can think of is the gaskets between the head and cylinder are leaking coolent into the cylinder, posibly thats why the plug is wet.

His plug would have had a wierd color to it and he would have been smoking really bad.

Ok so, you said it shut off during break in, so it "was running." And you also said the lights wont even flicker when its pulled. So im geussing that it has to be an electrical short. check out the whole system out for bare wires and burnt or broken wires.

I found the problem! I had 3 count em 3 burnt wires! After I get my new wire harness im selling it for 3500-4000. Thanks for all your help I really appreciate it! Here the list of my mods if anyone is interested.
-1986 250R- stock cylinder new top end (currently on bike), I have another stock cylinder that needs to be resleeved and I have a 265 national ported cylinder that needs to be sent back to the shop because they sleeved it wrong. The head was milled as much as possible. V-Force reeds, aluminum intake, k&n, Silver maiers in very good condition, 03 FX graphics and seat cover (shaved seat), T7 bars, kill switch, AC nerfs, AC bumper (bent back style), PRM grab bar, custom reinforced douglas .190 wheels (look like ITP baja wheels), 18'' fast trekkers in the rear and 21'' ohstus in the front, 13/36 gearing, custom case saver, custom brake master cylinder guard, custom mirror polished air scoops, the frame was powder coated red not to long ago and the a-arms, swing arm, pegs, and steering stem were powder coated hammer tone black, I installed some fog lights on the front fenders, its got FMF pipeing and I think thats it...oh ill also include a set of dune tires on 4 itp rims.
