Yes you still need the actual clutch (unless yours is still good). The 89 Update kit comes with a new rod, bearing, washer, rod end (lifter) and pressure plate.

 

Just a thought... make sure your out put shaft isnt striped! Iv had problems with that before. I swore it was the clutch and then i looked and it was striped[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif[/img] Its the shaft that the counter shaft sprocket goes on. It has 6 teeth. (out put shaft is also known as the countershaft) When your riding it just look down at that piece. (you can see it in the middle of the sproket) Give it some gas and if it spins then its striped. OR, you can just take the sproket off and look at it. Good luck.

 

the part # for the update kit 06220-hb9-305. Some one helped me with this a while back, try it works. You may also want a hinson or equivalent basket.
