Got a 13 tooth sprocket for my 400ex
#1
Hey guys after hearing a few people talk about how they likes their 13 tooth sprockets I decided to get one. I bought it off ebay & am going to put it on tonight. I have my hanes manual at home. If any of you have something you want to throw in about adjusting your chain I'm all ears. I haven't done it but I think it just by an allen wrench bolt! Walk me thru the process if you could. I don't need to remove a link in my chain do I? Thanks

well i can't say much cause i don't have a 400 yet buy plan on getting one soon, but to tighten up to chain there is 2 to 4 bolts on the bearing carrier that you have to losen and then the barring carrier will twist and tighten up the chain.

Thanks I was just looking thru the manual & get how to tighten or loosen. I'm just wondering now if there will be enough adjustment. Not real crazy about messing with the chain or getting a new one? Anyone made this switch & what did you have to do with your chain?

I just put a 14 on my 400ex...Tell me how the 13 does...All you have to do is loosen the 4 allen bolt on the back of the swing arm then take that allen and from the left side stick the allen though the back sprocket into one of the grooves on the chain ajuster push your qaud forward and your rear spocket will push up against the allen wrench and help loosen the chain when you have it loose enough take your from sprocket off... Put your new one on and reverse the steps.. I dont think you have to take out a link..Make sure you dont over tighten the chain... Tighten up and then set on the back and reach around and check your chain.. This will make sure that when you jump and your suspension compresses it wont break or over strech your chain... i hope this works for you let me know how it goes...and how that 13 works

I have a dumb question, when going down a couple teeth in the front sprocket, do you gain or loose top end? I know on the rear sprocket the smaller=top end, larger=low end; is it vise versa for the front sprocket?

There is plenty of adjustment in the chain you won't have to do anything except tighten it (5min. tops).
Phsyco! Not a dumb question. The smaller front sprocket will give better low end and take away some top end.

It depends on what your doing.. In drag racing you lose about 1 gear.. from stock ...your losing top end all around but when racing your using all you power in the time you need as of stock you probably can only rap out 4th gear...it makes a big chang in the bottom end you rap out quick..Like 2-stroke power..

For more low end and acceleration - Use either a smaller front sprocket or a bigger rear sprocket. Down one on the front is roughly equal to going up 3 on the back.
For top end- Bigger front sprocket on front or smaller sprocket on rear.
I just dropped to a 12T on the 450R, I'll be testing it this week in the sand. It was 14/38 stock.
