Just got my '86 TRX250R frame back from powdercoat and man does it look amazing! My advice is even if you have a brand new 2004 quad strip it to the frame and have it powdercoated........trust me it will be worth the trouble. Not only does powdercoat look 110X's better than paint but it is also much more durable........and no scratches=no rust!

I'll post some pics Sunday night when I can get a hold of my girlfirends digital camera. As far as price goes I got it sand-blasted and powder-coated Honda Red for $200. I also had all of my detachable parts powder-coated like the motor brackets, head-stay, and plastic mounts. I'm telling you guys to powder coat your bike......it will stay newer longer.

When I did the frame up restoration on my Harley, I had the frame and a few other parts powdercoated Manhattan Blue (pics in profile). It costs about $175, and I did the prep work. If you have them do the prep work, it will cost more. The metal has to be bare (sandblasted) and any inperfections on the surface will show up on the powdercoating

Your absolutely right. First I had it sandblasted then I took it to a machine shop where they repaired anything that was wrong with it. I'll tell you no matter how great your frame appears that paint hides a lot. The shop owner found a few areas of concern that were not cracks but had been stressed. He completely welded any imperfection and even custom fabricated new bottom motor mounts for me. He also strengthend high stress areas then topped it all off with a brilliant powder-coat job. This thing looks better and is stronger than it was back in '86. Of all the mods I have done to my quad this simple $200 powder coat was probably the best thing I've done.
