well if i had the chance to pick either one, i really dono wutch one to pick. but the ex is more reliable and has an almost endlis list of mods. there both great in the trial and open land but the ex is better in trails and z is better in open land. i think the ex has alittle more torque, but both being really close. but since i like to do trails and jumps and stuff i got the ex for stearing and reliable reasons. again there both extremeley great quads...

My one buddy has a stock Z-400 and the other has a 400EX w/ an upgrade to 440 and the Z-400 smoked him everytime.

I would eat a Z-400 for lunch and I don't even have a bore kit. I just have some well thought of parts that are matched a well built 400ex. Heck my 400ex is as fast or faster then the new 450R. Get the 400ex the Z is more money and the parts are outrageously priced.
