Default z400 or 400ex

I am fixing to buy either a z400 or 400ex which would be a better fourwheeler? Which has better torque? Which has better top speed and what is the top speed? And which one is all around better?

if you want liquid cooling and reverse get a z400
if you want superior handling and "honda reliability" get the 400 ex

In top speed , they are very close. With my Ex ,I hit 69 and its completely stock. For the torque i dont know but the horsepower is close too like 27 for the ex and 29 for the Z.All around they are very close . the Z have the reverse and liquid cooling (not very important because the Ex is good at cooling itself) but the Ex have more low end and more reliability and the 2004 have a bigger carb. they are 2 amazing quad you cant go wrong with these

The Z wins in about every category, except the engine likes to rev and doesn't like to lug down. Get the EX if you ride mostly tight trails, and the Z if you ride more open stuff.

Lots of things can go wrong on the Z400 like putting a stick or object through the cooling system. The parts on the Z400 are alot more money also. The Z400 is a little faster but hop up mods are more expensive. The 400ex is a all around great quad with a alot cheaper price tag. If you do for some strange reason have some mechanical faliure parts are extemely plentyful and reasonable priced. If you throw a few bucks at the 400ex you can have one bad ride with plenty of useable power. I have under a grand on my motor and it's faster than the new 450R with out even having a bore kit put on it. So I guess what I'm trying to say is ride red buddy.

Both are great quads. We have one of each. It depends what your needs are. I have a Z400 and my boyfriend has a 400ex. The Z400 has reverse and handles better on the trails. ATV Sport had a shootout a month or two ago. The Z400 won in most categories, except the test riders said the 400ex did better in the rough stuff. The Z400 also has a radiator with a cooling fan. The seat is really comfy on it also.
