I need help with ES
#1
I bought a 04 Honda Rancher 350 back in Nov. I have had it out and during the winter time my ES was acting up, but if I let it warm up it would be okay. But it was out the other day ran great. The next day I had it out my ES was acting up would not let me shift. I don't know why. So I stopped for awhile and then about a couple of hours later, started it let it run for awhile and it ran for about an hour before messing up again. So the next day I took it out again and it was not working at all and has not worked since. Any ideals. Please help, I don't want to take it into the dealer unless I have to I know they would try and screw me. Any ideas please post. Thanks a lot ZIPP...

I don't have a Rancher ES.. But I have a Foreman ES..
Don't really know if the system is similar, but if it is, then, maybe your Shifter Fuse is loose in it's socket..
I had the same trouble, and it was the fuse.. I just cleaned the Socket that the fuse sits in, then I've put Dielectric grease in it..
No more problem since ....
Hope it helps .. ??

Oh and about the battery thing, on my foreman, even if the Battery is completely Dead, the Shifter works number 1 ..
I think it should be working even on your Rancher if the Battery was dead, so I don't think you should replace the battery. . .

i'm telling you, we replaced the batter and adjusted the clutches and it hasnt had a problem yet.... maybe it's coincidence but thats what we did and it worked. I dont knwo if it's guerenteed or just luck or what.. but. think about it all that juice comes from you battery when shifting....

Hmm .. On my foreman, the fuse is not in the Fuse Box, it is in the same compartment, but it's on an orange Cable ...
It was near the Starter Solenoid ... I am not sure, but I think it is a 20 amps Fuse ...
Just check every wires in there and you'll see if there is a Fuse or not on the cables . . .
Is your LCD showing --- when you try to shift ?! . .
I'm not sure about the Rancher, but maybe you can retrieve a Code by the ECM that tells you what is the problem . . .
I don't know about the sequence either, my foreman doesn't have the option, but I think new Foreman have it . .

Hmm, About the Battery .. It tells in the manual, at least for the Foreman, that the shifter doesn't need the battery to
shift, just the Alternator . . .
And like I said, my battery was dead when I had the quad, and it shifted correctly..
I'm just saying I don't think that the Battery has to do with Shift problems . . .
But, I know that it takes lot of juice to shift ... Maybe the Alternator on the Rancher is weak . . ?? ..
