Default 450R falling short?

Have any of you guys read the June 2004 issue of Dirtwheels about the modified 450R vs modified YFZ shootout? Once again they put the YFZ on top. How are the 450R's doing at the track in your riding areas? Not too many people race them at the Harescrambles where I live. The 4 stroke field usually is flooded by YFZs a handfull of Z-400s and usually only 1 or 2 450Rs. They also reported troubles with the kick starter. Is that an ignition problem because my 250R is 18 years old and even after a few weeks of sitting it will still fire first kick. It sounds like the 450R doesn't have any major problems just a few of those first-year-bugs.
Just reread the article in dirtwheels after reading your post. It doesn't say anywhere in the article about troubles with the kick started, what it says, and I quote "Starting the Honda is becoming more of an annoyance issue. It usually fires up in a kick or two" . This isn't a remark about troubles with the kick starter. Just an opinion of a writer who doesn't want to kick a quad to start it. Mine starts the first kick for the most part. Just like you 250R.
If everything you read and hear about the YZF and 450R puts the YZF on top, I would suggest you go out and buy one. I don't don't really care what the articles say. I LOVE my 450R.

The comment about the kick-starter was derived from people I have talked to who have one. Personally, if I just bought a brand new quad for $6,500 I would expect it to fire on the first kick every time and not "usually the first or second kick." As far as me liking the YFZ better that is not just from reading articles......I have ridden both machines. The 450R does have it's advantages as far as comfort though.

Why must you always bring up negative things to say about the 450R.If, in your opinion, it is an inferior machine, that's your opinion. You have stated that many times on this thread. Now just LET IT GO!

My 450R starts the first kick 99% of the time. It starts first kick while warm 99% of the time. It starts while cold and choked 99% of the time.

Hey 1bad250r, maybe you should continue turning the pages in the dirtwheels magazine until you get to page 178. "TIM FARR WINS FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP FOR HONDA"
Interesting. Look which rides finished second.
Try being unbiased.

What championship? Sure wasn't a national. I guess he is still getting it "dialed in" - maybe it takes the whole season?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. "Honda is just going to buy wins." "just wait until the YFZ is a true 450cc".....which it already is in the Pro ranks. I love it man. Did you see the pick of the "PRO" rider in dirtwheels shooting the front-end to the sky during a jump and the magazine saying, "Here is a typical example of the Honda's light front end." Oh my, is this political or what? Funny how my "non-Pro" a$$ was handling my 450R in the jumps just fine. This is starting to get as fun as listening to John Carryyyyy.

I agree. I have seen many photos of the trx in flight and it looks extremely well balanced. I don't think I've seen a photo of the trx yet (except in the magazines) that shows its nose pointing skyward. I am assuming that the riders were recreational riders for the most part.
