I bought the new 2004 TRX400FGA back in February. GPS system could have offered a few more options, 2x4/4x4 option works great on the fly, ESP/Auto option for the Transmission can only be switch while completely stopped. Auto mode is very smooth and is best choice for the woods. I find ESP setting better for back roads as it does not seem to rev as high at cruising speeds. Top speed so far is 51 mph but revving pretty high(not intended to be a speed demon). Suspension is a little stiffer than I would like. Surprisingly you cannot adjust spring preload on any of the shocks.
So far no big regrets, satisfied with my choice

I sold my honda rancher 350 4x4 es,so that I could pay off creidt cards. I will be looking for another atv in 3 or 4 mounths(spelling maybe off I am sleepy sorry). I am thinking about the 04 honda 400 4x4 selectable(speeling maybe off) automatic withouth the gps. Is the automatic good. I do not like changeing grears. I am also looking at the new 04 yamaha bruin 350 4x4 selectable automatic. I went to the dealer today and he said the price is $4,999 plus ttl and the winch I want. The only thing I did not like about the 350 yamaha is it has no display for speed and etc.. Thinks for the info

Depends on your riding style. If you plan on keeping the stock tires, and cruising around the trails, you should be fine. Dont expect to be able to put on a big set of mudders, and send up a rooster tail, climb steep hills, and pull a big load. The Rancher AT just does'nt have the power. If you want an auto tranny with some muscle, I would sugest a Polaris, Yamaha, or Suzuki.

Judging from the machines in his sig, 3 ranchers, He is looking at purchasing the latest and greatest honda rancher. The 400AT uses the same auto trans cvt from the rubicon. While there have been some complaints of lacking low end power, the bike has gotten rave reviews. It would be an excellent addition to your stable.
Since when does suzuki have a "powerful auto trans" utility? Last time I checked the TP used the same everything from the Kawi Prairie. And the AC650 has the un bored version of that engine. Yet you failed to mention any of these.

Am I mistaken when I say that the Eiger is avalible in an auto version? I have also heard great reviews from the Eiger, and a low price to match. I'm not saying that what I listed in my previous post is the only way to go, I was just sugesting alternative machines. Also when I was trying to make sugestions, I was talking about mid-sized utes.

It appeared to me that you were reffering to utility atvs in general and therefore the latest and greatest, my mistake.
The eiger is a good machinewith or without an auto trans. A similar, liquid cooled auto or manual model is availible from ac. I know that the reason I purchased my rancher was to stay away from belt drives.
