Tired out my puller just the other day for the heck of it and it didn't have any resistance at all in the pull like the engine had no compression to speak of. It starts fine with the magic button, but it would be a lot more reassuring to know that if I had battery or starter problems, I could pull-start it and get home. What's going on?

 

did the recoil jsut pull out with no resistance, or did the engine turn over when you pulled out? they are actually very easy to pull, i belive this is because of an automatic compression release. dont quote me on this, i'm not an expert.

 

I've seen some filled with gook. They can get watery mud in them, then the water drains and dries and they just don't work well that way.

 

i do believe it may have automatic decompression (the rancher does)...but it still isn't REAL easy to pull....i think it maybe be clogged with gunk and just not catching..

 

The pull has little or no resistance what so ever.

 

you should feel compression for sure....it isn't catching....you need to clean it.
