gmrs/frs radios
#2
frs radios were nice when they came out, they allowed us to stay connected but at a very limited range, say 2miles max. well now in 04 both cobera and midland have radios out that are a full three watts of power using gmrs bands. what does thi mean?
old frs radio power is 0.05 watts
new gmrs power is a full 3 watts
result is ranges approachin the 10 mile range in ideal comditions. also many modles have compasses noaa weather alerts and much more. if staying in contact with you buddies is needed or you would like to take a look at these radion. motorola is still in the 1 watt range so i suggest you stay away from them for now. keep in touch on the trails and enjoy life. an easy helmet boom mike mod so that the ear piece and mike actually fit into your helmet is quite easy to do.
take care

GMRS Radios require a licence to use where as a FRS radio does not. Not to sure about the U.S.of A but here in Canada anything over 0.5 watts has to be licenced. I use both radios on the Quads and sometimes the 5 watts output is really good but mostly we use the FRS radios they are cheap and easy to use
