I gave mine about 20-30 minutes of soft ride time. I differed the throttle but kept the revs down. I let it go through about 5 heat cycles during this first 20-30 minutes of ride time. Then I gave it hell. I also changed the oil after about 2 hrs ride time. Then gave it hell again.

Read the owners manual. It tells you what oil to use.

Your owners manual will describe how Honda wants the atv broke in.

I highly recommend motomans break-in technique! But, if you have already babied the engine, it is probably to late.

http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

You can run DIFERENT oils in your motor and trans, so take advantage of that! Read the article below, and everything that pertains to the CRF, also goes for the 450R. You can run a JASO MB oil in the motor, but you are stuck with JASO MA only in the trans.

http://www.thumperfaq.com/oil.htm

I ride a couple of hours, then change BOTH the trans and motor oil, plus the filter. Then I change again at 10 and 20 hrs. Initially, in the engine use PETROLIUM (DINO, NO SYNTHETICS) OIL ONLY (Honda GN4) FOR THE FIRST 20 HOURS, then after that switch to a slick JASO MB oil (Honda HP4M with Moly, petrolium/synth blend). Run Honda HP Trans Oil in the trans.
