Timing problem on 250 fourtrax

I am working on a Honda 250 fourtrax 1986 model,has any one had a problem of the timing chain jumping time? I think this has happened because there was a konck before it quit running,and when I tried to restart it,only backfired once,HELP

The timing chain is probably stretch out. I would try a new one.

How do you know its the timing chain? Could it be a faulty CDI?
